1 Which roof is better, A Tiled roof or a Colorbond roof?

Both tiled roof and colorbond roofs have their advantages and disadvantages:

  • Colorbond roofs are lighter in weight so therefore there is minimal to no sagging.
  • Tiled roofs do sag at the eaves of the building near to the hip altering falls of gutters which then requires to have regular maintenance.
  • Colorbond roofs are airlight then tiled roofs not allowing vermin or dust into the roof space
  • Colorbond roof have extended colour choice to select from
  • Colorbond roofs are fire retardant and particularly energy efficient too
  • Colorbond roofs tie the whole roof together making it much stronger
  • Colorbond roofs offers “Anticon” where this offers better acoustic and insulation properties.
  • Colorbond roofing is a steel roof which is more versatile as it can be used on any pitch for all shapes and sizes.
  • Tiled roof are more liable to serve hail damages than a metal roof. Tiled roof can crack with a down pour of hail, but the metal roof would dent.

2 What are the colour choices for colorbond roofing?

3 Can I use Zincalume for my roof?

  • Each individual has a different budget requirement for the roof spend. Zincalume is a great product but colorbond is far superior in terms with durability and the final finishing.
  • Colorbond has Zincalume steel as its based which is then painted to the customers requirements. The method of painting requires multiple of layers which is then tested to Australian conditions.
  • Zincalume are limited to the colours available and mostly the silver steel roof color is used, so therefore commercial and larger building tend to use these roofs.

4 How much does a Colorbond roof cost compared to tiled roofs on average?

When accurate comparison are made between tiled and colorbond roofs we have found that colorbond roofs are more cost effective if the right trades and equipment is used. All jobs need to be measured and quoted correctly factoring Cost of extra Timber.  Roof plumbing i.e. gutters, valleys, trays and Downpipes would still need to be installed where in a colorbond roof these would be part of the package. Prime Roofing (WA) can complete the works with one trade, saving on overall costs and time.

5 What is the expected life on Colorbond roofing?

Prime Roofing WA only uses BlueScope steel materials were the location of your home or office could be exposed to salt air or to omissions from factories. All these things can affect the new roof surface which can potential reduce the life span of the roof. There are high quality materials used for roofs in affected areas but would cost more money.
